  38. Well, I finally did it! Last Thursday I made my first satellite 
  39. contact via RS-10.  Yee-Haaa!! as they say.  Other than chasing 
  40. myself all over the place due to doppler and not keeping my 
  41. transmissions brief, it really wasn't bad at all. After putting 
  42. things off for years, I really enjoyed myself. (Those comments for 
  43. any readers who have yet to actually take the plunge. Don't put it 
  44. off!)    One problem, though, and a question.  First, the problem: I 
  45. was using an R-7 for the down-link antenna, but noticed that if I 
  46. switched to the 20-75 trap dipole the signal might improve. Going 
  47. back and forth between antennas allowed me to keep contact. That got 
  48. me to wondering, though, if some other arrangement might work better. 
  49. What about crossed Yagis, fed with a 1/4 section? Maybe over a ground 
  50. plane?  If this arrangement has merit, what lengths and spacings 
  51. would be optimal? Could I get a pattern similar to the Egg-beater I'm 
  52. using on 2M?  Now the question: Is the down-link from RS-10 weaker 
  53. than from RS-12 or is it just my imagination?  Thanks in advance.

  94.     I'm a little confused about the DOVE satellites (so what's new many
  95.     people shout together...)    Is DO-17 the DOVE satellite?  And what
  96.     modes, etc does it support?  I'm trying to find the TLE's to add to
  97.     PCTRACK, and I'm not sure what I'm looking for.  Someone recently
  98.     posted a large list of TLE, and the closest thing I find is DO-17.

  116. I already have STSORBIT PLUS, and it's amazing. 
  117. However, my machine doesn't have the required math coprocessor, so it's
  118. *painfully* slow.

  144. IMHO, satellite transponder passbands are small enough that logging
  145. of the transponder mode and operating mode (ie. B/SSB, J/FM, etc.)
  146. and the satellite is more than adequate for any logging, QSLing and
  147. record keeping requirements.  In my log and on cards under the
  148. 'FREQ' column I put the satellite name and under 'MODE' the operating
  149. modes as above.
